I hope that no meteorologist lost his/her job for
last weekend’s weather forecast. The 80% and 90%
chance of rain, snow and ice for Saturday and Sunday
never materialized in our area. I am sure that there was
more than meteorological science involved; our prayers
to St. Joseph not to spoil our celebration prepared in his
honor with much devotion and love for several weeks
did help.
During the week I invited people to pray for
good weather, and personally I prayed before St. Joseph’s
statue and I reminded him that the whole weekend
celebration was to honor him for providing abundant
rain and a rich harvest to
our ancestors in Sicily who
had suffered a long and severe
drought. I pray to him to
show us his power and control
over the rain and snow.
And
He did. No rain and snow was
seen in our area on Saturday,
Sunday and Monday. My trust
in St. Joseph has increased
100% and I am sure the same
for many of you. We can appeal
to St. Joseph in our
needs and He will help us.
Last Sunday 450 people attended
the St. Joseph’s Mass, the largest attendance
ever. After mass, over 500 people jammed the
Scalabrini Hall and many could not enter and left.
Those who stayed had a great time, the St. Joseph’s
Table was beautiful, the pasta Milanese, the salad, the
cookies were super.
The outdoor heated tent was a great idea and
we are grateful for Mr. & Mrs. Joe Brancato and family
for providing it. We need a larger tent next year with a
hot table to serve food in order to share the heavy load
in the kitchen. Any other suggestions to improve service
is welcomed.
We are grateful to three families who accepted
to bring their children to represent the Holy Family,
Nicki Ragusa (Blessed Mother), Joe Stasi (St. Joseph),
Victor Brancato (Jesus).
The gross income from the feast should be
around $21,000. The expenses
were high and a complete
report will be given
later.
A big thank you to the organizers,
the many volunteers
of the baking crew,
the Scouts who set up the
Table, helped all day Sunday,
those who prepared
and decorated the Table,
the cooks, the servers and all
helpers and all those who
participated and patronized
our celebration.
Special
thanks to Anna Badami,
Minnie Tristanio and their niece Virginia May who collected
$1000.00 from her friends in Chicago to make
the total amount of donations collected over $7,000.00.
They deserve a medal.
May St. Joseph continue to bless us and our
families and make us grateful for our blessings and for
our willingness to share them with the needy and poor.
